Benefit Concert - Tips?
February 10, 2008 @ 01:34 AM

Not sure what response I'll get to this, but:

I'm a high school student who's interested in organizing a benefit concert to raise money for, probably, Doctors Without Borders. I'll get other people involved in it as it progresses, but first, I need to do some preliminary planning. I need to find a venue, get bands, etc.

Any suggestions on how to start?

Thanks. I'm a radio DJ for my school, so I'll be sure to check it out.

make sure that some of the groups are from your school so people will pay to see your buddies. you might want to have a raffle or silent auction and food for sale.

at my school, we used to have a "lock in" where there were concerts, games, and things like human foosball and blowup lasertag that had been rented out. it was like 35 or 40 dollars a ticket, but so worth it. (if you decide to do something like this, you probably want to take a survey and find out if people are interested and will pay the prices first.)

Great initiative with wanting to have a benefit concert at your school! Search for some local bands (on a site like Ticketmaster) to see when they will be in your town. Write up letters, use all the contacts you can think of, ask businesses to sponsor you. Together with a few friends you could go around to local businesses asking them to donate things to your raffle or silent auction (these usually bring in a lot of money). Be sure to come up with exactly where the money will be going, and even why you are interested in this particular cause. The more you know about the topic the more you will get help.
